But to make a simple and ordinary image into a masterpiece, the process between photographing and publishing has a major role to play.

And this process is what we know is post processing or post production in photography. Post production is not only editing the images.

It’s a group of work that is required after the shooting till sharing the images with the audience.

In this editorial, I will try to answer what is post production and post processing in photography and I hope you guys will get a clear idea about it.

A lot of photography professionals might have second thoughts about my opinion on the post production but according to me, post means after and production means the process that goes into creating something.

So post production should be all the things that are done after the actual shooting till producing the final product. Post production covers

  • Transferring all the materials to the computer and back up them
  • Sort the photos you capture and find the perfect one.
  • Editing them using image editing software
  • Fix grainy photos, spots and blemishes as well.
  • Prepare the materials for printing, sharing, and posting them

What is Post Processing?

Post processing is a part of post production that refers to all the image editing processes a photographer does after completing the shooting.

We often think that post production and post processing is the same thing but its not true.

Photography post processing workflow for image covers different types of editing using photo editing software.

You have to be an expert in image editing services if you want to post-process your images flawlessly to publish them.

Images that come directly from the camera can have many issues like dust. grain, spots, framing problem, exposure problem, white balance problem etc. Without fixing these issues you won’t be able to create the masterpiece you want to create.

Let’s know a couple of photography dependents that require professional photo post processing

1. Overexposure Issue

Overexposure

In the HDR method, photographers capture overexposed and also underexposed photos intentionally.

But photographers who started their career recently sometimes click the overexposed photo and realize it later in the post production.

In that case, they must go for image post processing to fix it in the post production photography.

So if you ever miss your perfect exposure while shooting, don’t lose your confidence because photography post processing can save your day of hard work.

2. White Balance Issue

white balance fixing

Indoor photos are the major victim of the white balance issue. Images get too much yellowish or blueish effect because of incorrect white balance.

We may not realize the issue at first but after transferring the image to the big screen it gets more visible. With photo post processing, you can fix the white balance of your photo very easily.

3. Shoot in RAW Mode

RAW mode

Most of the camera has default settings to capture images in jpeg format. But the problem with jpeg format is it does minimal editing to the image and make it look moderate but locks down the settings.

So you can’t edit jpeg format and if you do you will lose the image quality.

On the other hand, RAW formate clicks the image with every detail the camera can capture and keeps it intact for post-processing.

If you want your post processing photography look flawless and perfect then my recommendation will be to shoot in RAW mode and capture every detail you can.

4. HDR Shooting

HDR shooting

Shooting in the HDR method is used when photographers want to capture every detail of the high dynamic range from the background of a photo. Photographers capture photos with different exposures from too bright to too dark.

In the post-processing, photo editing experts merge all the images and get the HDR image then they do image retouching to fix the issues.
